Graduation!

My very first blog post. Yay!

For those of you that don't know, I graduated from UW-Madison this weekend. I got my bachelors in Medical Microbiology and Immunology (aka MM&I). Now all I have to do is wait until all my grades are posted and everything in finalized. When that point comes, I have to get transcripts sent out and all that jazz for grad school. Something I don't understand: it takes them 10-12 weeks to send out our diplomas. Why so long?! It's not like they have to send lists in the mail or fill them out by hand. It shouldn't take more than a month, tops.

In other news, I move to Columbia, MO in less than 3 weeks. I'm excited but at the same time I know I'm going to miss Madison so much. After living in this city for 4 years it's kind of grown on me. I know it's going to be weird moving to a new city, let alone a new state! I'm not looking forward to not even knowing where the nearest grocery store is. Working at the Union for 4 years has forced me to really know where almost everything in Madison is located. Evetually I'll get to that same stage in Columbia. That may take some time though.

Many people keep asking me this: why I'm moving in June even though school doesn't start until August 24th. My answer: because I really need to get to know this city. Yes, I'll be living with my good friend, Ben, but I don't want to depend on him for everything. Eventually I'll have to drive to campus alone and go places myself. I want to be able to get my bearings and a job before school starts. Starting at a new campus is going to be stressful all on it's own. I want to be able to focus just on that when the time comes. The 2 months I'll have before the semester starts will allow me to (hopefully) get everything in order before that.

So while I wish I could actually enjoy my summer and sleep in every day I'm going to be working tons in my last 3 weeks here. Like tomorrow: I have to get up at 5:30am to be to work by 6:30. With that, I'm done.

Below are a few pictures taken before and after graduation on Sunday, May 17th. I'll leave it to you to figure out which ones are from before and which are after. (Just click on the picture for a larger view)

Hmm, I'm pretty sure you should stay here over the summer. Screw learning your way around Columbia. I'm more important... speaking of importance...not a single mention of me here? :-p

I didn't mention you because it was about graduation. Besides, you were in the pictures, don't worry :)
