So two weeks from today is the day that I move to Columbia. I'm starting to get a little nervous about the move, but I'm excited at the same time. There's so much that could get in the way of me even getting out of Madison to begin with. The street I currently live on is under construction which could pose a problem or two when we try to find a place to park a 12' UHaul trailer while we load it up. That'll be an experience...
The one thing that has me the most worried about the move is employment. Surprisingly, I've had a place to live before I was even officially accepted to Mizzou. The good part of knowing people that live in the area. :) As of now, the only job I've applied for is a teaching assistant position for the fall semester, which I really hope I get. I'd get a tuition waiver out of it (yay not having to pay $18K) plus a $1300/month stipend. Unfortunately, I don't find out about that until probably sometime this summer. The other job I want, which I haven't applied for (because I can't) is a unit clerk/med tech position in the ER at University Hospital. This is the job I'm aiming to get for the summer, but currently they don't have any positions available. According to my friend Ben there are a few people leaving soon, but nothing is official. So, as of today, I'm going to be unemployed when I get down there. Scary because I've had a job since I turned 14...
I have to say that I'm really going to miss Madison. Working at the student union for the past four years has been a really fun experience that I'm probably never going to be able to experience again. Getting my dream job at a hospital would have to be amazing to come close to the job I have now. The flexibility and all of the people I've met is just phenomenal. I'm also going to miss my friends. I may not have known a ton of people throughout college but the people that I did hang out with frequently were a fun bunch of people. It's going to be weird having to start over from scratch in a new city. I do know some people down there, but with the exception of two, most of them live two or more hours away.
Anyway, I should probably get ready for work. Had yesterday off so I haven't really left the apartment since Thursday. Oops. The joys of being on summer break, I guess.
Later all :)
